Invitation for collaborative research on responsible AI: "Exploring AI developers’ perceptions on the ideal conditions to drive responsible AI”

We are reaching out to AI companies that seek to establish themselves as leaders in promoting responsible AI. We aim to understand AI developers' design mindsets and the working conditions conducive to a proactive while also reflective approach to addressing AI's opportunities and challenges. Thereby, companies can be supported in gaining competitive advantage in ways that address both their technical and social responsibilities.

The Work and Organizational Psychology Chair at ETH Zürich, in collaboration with the AI Center, seeks to form a coalition of forward-thinking firms interested in contributing to research on effective and safe work practices in AI development. Interviews with AI developers in various application areas will be the basis for answering questions on how developers establish control and accountability for AI outcomes and how organizational procedures can best support them.

The research is led by Prof. Dr. Gudela Grote, Professor of Work and Organizational Psychology in the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics at ETH Zürich, and builds on her long-standing expertise in designing socio-technical systems, risk management, and recent work on AI governance published in the highest-ranked management journal (link to AMR paper).

How can you contribute?
• Providing access to AI developers in your company for interviews (max. 1 hour) to share their insights and experience.

What’s in it for you?
Valuable insights: You will gain a deeper understanding of your developers’ perceptions, attitudes, and decision-making processes related to accountability and social responsibility in their work. This way, you get a diagnosis of design mindsets and cultural assumptions and norms in your company.
Visibility and collaboration: You will be acknowledged as partner in this research and will receive invitations to events for informal exchange.
Reputation and social impact: You will be at the forefront of shaping standards for effective and safe work practices in the industry.

Please contact Prof. Gudela Grote () or Dr. Arlette Roman Almazar () for further information. We very much look forward to receiving your expression of interest to join the research coalition.
